We posted earlier that it seemed likely that immigration reform will be shelved for the remainder of the U.S. presidential election campaign season. The Congressional Quarterly adds a little more:
The future now appears bleak for any immigration overhaul legislation in the remaining 18 months of the current Congress.Refusal to invoke cloture now means “the bill is dead for this year,”
Arlen Specter , R-Pa., warned before the vote. And with elections looming next year, it will not return before 2009, he predicted.Majority Leader
Harry Reid , D-Nev., did not go that far. “This is a legislative issue,” he said. “It will come back. It’s only a question of when.”
Basically, it seems almost certain immigration reform is temporarily, Congressionally dead.

This is a dead horse already..... they need to stop trying to revive it. The American public has let them know what they think about this immigration issue..... It's now dead.
This is like a stinking fish that keeps washing up on the shore and the public will now be fooled no matter how it's dressed.
Lock down the border and when the 12+ million have gone back to their countries, then we can talk. Untill then........ Let a sleeping dog lie.
The American people won a great victory today. We will have to fight the traitors in our own governent again and again and again, but tonight, we sleep like babies.
God bless all who fought the good fight for American sovereignty and decency. Someday the names of the great ones will be inscribed on a monument in Washington: Roy Beck, Lou Dobbs, Michelle Malkin, Dan Stein, Terry Anderson, Mark Krikorian, and all the Senators who stood with us today against those who put the interests of foreigners and a foreign government ahead of the interests of law-abiding, taxpaying American citizens. And us, the average Americans, outgunned, outspent, out-media'd, shouted down, ridiculed and patronized, with our faxes and phone calls and emails and rinky-dink websites and our 25 dollar donations, together we beat Big Raza, Big Religion, Big Corporate, Big Labor, Big Media, the United States Senate Majority Leadership, and the President of the United States of America.
