The results of the latest New York Times/CBS News/MTV poll, released today, indicate that young people (defined as 17- to 29-year-olds) are—unsurprising to most, probably—leaning more to the left than the general public.
Young Americans are much more open to abortion rights, electing a black or female president, and, in what will interest this blog's readers the most, an open-door immigration policy:
30 percent said that “Americans should always welcome new immigrants,” while 24 percent of the general public holds that view.

Younger Americans have no clue how much hard work it takes to build up a country like the United States. They have been brainwashed all their lives with Kumbaya-diversity nonsense. They do not have children or mortgages and do not pay taxes. Yes, I am not surpised that many favor open border policies that will deliver our sovereignty to a corrupt foreign government (just like Matt) but when they start having children and paying taxes, they will have a different viewpoint.
In addition there is quite a big difference between the open borders policies advocated by Matt and "always welcoming new immigrants." Sure, we should always welcome new, compatible, LEGAL immigrants in sustainable numbers. Even I would agree with that. But that is not what Matt advocates -- they advocate getting as many of la raza into this country as possible regardless of how unsustainable that numer is or how much it negatively impacts American people already here.
General American public who believes in "always welcoming new immigrants" = 24%
Young people who do = 30%
the difference is not that big (negligible almost, if you ascribe to the idea that the younger cohorts of the population are more Kumbaya than the older ones), Maryst. As a result most of your argument is null & void.
Martina, There is still a big difference between agreeing that "We should always welcome new immigrants" and "we support open borders and unlimited immigration" which is what the Matt post and the NYT are both implying. That is not in anyway a "null and void" point.
The NYT article was "implying" nothing. The poll question was this: "And 30 percent said that “Americans should always welcome new immigrants,” while 24 percent of the general public holds that view." NOT "open borders and unlimited imm."
Plus, this post and the poll had nothing to do with the MATT organization's proposals or how you interpret them. I am under the impression, in fact, that this blog is editorially independent from MATT -- they certainly are not endorsing MATT's views or those of anyone else -- we're getting pretty balanced coverage here, which is great.
there was a psychological study made that was published a year or so ago, very well-received, that followed the emotional growth of a pre-school class well into middle age. the majority of the kids who had the least self-confidence, who cried the most, were least sociable, etc. grew up to be, among other things, politically conservative.
seeing people like maryst think that straight-forward things "imply" something completely different is much like a little child who thinks everyone's making fun of him or her.
yes, maryst, it's all a conspiracy against you! watch OUT! ;)
